Former NBA Dud Accused of Attempting to Rob Gas Station

An ex-first-round NBA draft pick who didn’t make it in the league, and who is rumored to have a history of fighting other athletes, was now accused of trying to rob an Indiana gas station.

On November 8, just after midnight, police in Goshen (Indiana), about 20 minutes south of the Michigan border received a report that a man was acting unruly at Phillips 66. The clerk claimed that Donte Greene, 34, entered the store and demanded all the money.

Greene said that he told the clerk to keep his phone in his pocket and not to call the police when he took it out of his pocket. Greene was also seen wandering around the store, taking items out of his pockets and even taking off his shirt.

Police said that Greene also “lunged” at a clerk who, in turn, continued to retreat behind the counter.

Phillips station was nearby and workers at Taco Bell called 911 about the incident. It turned out that the police had been searching for a drunk driver in the area. They quickly arrested Greene, who was charged with attempted robbery and intimidation, and interfering with the reporting of crime. If convicted, Greene could spend up to six years in prison.

Greene was not arrested for any alcohol-related offenses despite reports that he was a drunk driver in the vicinity. Reports state that he didn’t have any weapons on him at the time he was arrested and that he didn’t take anything from the shop.

Greene’s success at Syracuse University was a highlight of his career. He led the team in scoring during that season. The Memphis Grizzlies selected him in the first round of the 2008 NBA Draft. The Grizzlies traded him immediately to the Houston Rockets who traded him to the Sacramento Kings in August of that year. After four years of inconsistency with the Kings, Greene was traded to the Houston Rockets. The Rockets then traded him to the Sacramento Kings.

Greene moved around several NBA Development League and NBA Summer League clubs before finally moving overseas to continue his professional career. He made stops in Puerto Rico and China, the Dominican Republic. Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia.

Greene was allegedly involved in a fight with DeMarcus Cousins, a former Kings teammate. In 2014, he was also arrested after allegedly fighting outside a Miami nightclub with Jo-Lonn Dubar, a former linebacker for the St. Louis Rams.

According to arrest records, Greene is currently in Waldorf, Maryland. This is 75 miles from Towson, Maryland where Greene was born. It is not clear why he was there at the time of the incident.
