Elon Musk Accuses Biden DOJ of Hypocrisy Over SpaceX Hiring Practices

Last week, we reported on the Biden DOJ’s targeting of Elon Musk and SpaceX for alleged discriminatory hiring practices.

What was Musk accused of? The accusation was that Musk hired U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents for jobs, but not “asylees or refugees.”

Some pointed immediately to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, which require that companies working with military technology and rockets hire U.S. citizens/permanent employees. Musk said that they would be in serious trouble if they didn’t follow the ITAR.

Musk said that SpaceX had been told “repeatedly” that hiring anyone not a US permanent resident would violate the international arms trade law. This would be a crime. “We couldn’t hire Canadian citizens despite Canada being a member of NORAD!”

Musk then called it what it was: “This is another case of weaponization by the DOJ to serve political purposes.”

What’s the point of getting sued for not breaking the law?

Biden Federal Trade Commission is also targeting Musk’s X platform. It’s easy to see why they are going after him – he is standing in the path of their political narrative, which they no longer have control over on X.

They can take on anyone if they are able to target the former president of the United States and one of the wealthiest men in the entire world. It is a frightening thought to think that the Biden administration has brought our country into a situation where we cannot rely on them to uphold the rule of the law in a fair manner.

Musk didn’t take it lying down. Musk pointed out that the question could hinge on the interpretation of the law. But he also called the Biden DOJ’s actions hypocritical in suing him and SpaceX. He cited an article by Alex Tabarrock of George Mason University who noted that the DOJ requires anyone hired to be a recreation specialist in a jail – hardly a secret job – to be a U.S. Citizen.

Musk declared, “The DOJ must sue itself!” Musk declared.

How can the DOJ go after Musk and SpaceX if they are engaging in these practices and claim that this is not political targeting?

Musk said that “irony” is “too much.”

Let’s not pretend that we agree with Biden’s term “asylees”, a term used for both true asylum seekers and people who entered illegally but wrongly claimed asylum, even though they did not qualify. It’s possible that they came here because of economic reasons, and not due to political persecution. The DOJ doesn’t say that when they are going after SpaceX.

Good for Musk for destroying the Biden team’s credibility with the glaring inconsistencies in this matter.
