Why Does AOC Wants Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein to Step Down?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York, has called for Sen. Dianne F. Feinstein (D-Calif. ), to resign.

Feinstein has been unable to work since she was diagnosed with shingles in early this year. Some Democratic legislators have asked her to resign.

Nancy Pelosi, a California Democratic Representative, said that she had never seen anyone target a male senator who was ill in this manner.

CNN reported that Ocasio-Cortez said on Bluesky, a social media platform, that Feinstein should “retire.” She added, “I believe that criticisms of this stance as “anti-feminist” are a farce. Her refusal to retire or appear in court is harming the judiciary, where repro rights are being stripped. This failure means that in this limited time, Dems will only be able to pass GOP-approved nominees”, Ocasio Cortez said.

In February, Feinstein, a senator in the U.S. Senate who has been in office for over three decades, said she would not run for reelection in 2024.

When I was diagnosed with shingles I thought I would be back by the end of March. Feinstein stated in a press release last month that my return to Washington was delayed because of ongoing complications related to my diagnosis. “I plan to return to Washington as soon as my medical team says it is safe for me to travel. “I will continue working from my home in San Francisco while I am away.”

Uncertainty surrounds the time frame for Senator Feinstein’s return to Washington. Feinstein’s spokesperson said to Axios, “Don’t Expect Her This Week.”
