Authorities announced Wednesday that a 3-year-old boy from Boston was found dead after he disappeared from his babysitter’s house.
Officials said Harry Kkonde was discovered just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, near a pond located in the Lowell area of Rollie’s Farm, Massachusetts. Authorities said it was unclear how he got to the pond which is approximately 650 feet away from where he disappeared.
Marian Ryan, Middlesex County District Attorney, told reporters that “we don’t know where he was from the time he went missing to when he got to the pond”. A child who disappears is every parent’s nightmare.
She added that “This is clearly the result that no one over these many hours would have expected or desired.”
Ryan stated that the boy was discovered by state police divers in five feet of water. Ryan said that there was no external trauma to the boy and that he was well-clothed.
Ryan stated that the pond was searched shortly after the boy went missing. “Many, many places were searched again and re-searched,” Ryan stated that Harry was seen outside by a neighbor at some time before he disappeared.
“And at some point then the neighbor noticed he wasn’t there and made inquiries as to where he had gone,” she said.
On Wednesday afternoon, officers began gathering at the farm near the area where the child vanished. A yellow crime tape was put up and an underwater recovery team was at the site.
Around 200 first responders searched the area where the boy disappeared between 9:15 and 9.30 a.m. The search was also carried out by the FBI, state troopers, police officers, as well as firefighters.
Officials didn’t say whether foul play was involved in the outcome.
